When I received my certification in the DISC assessment, I learned it was much more than just a personality test. The DISC assessment has the power to enhance productivity, communication, and understand our own strengths and how it interacts with the workplace. The concept is simple, there are four quadrants: Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, Conscientiousness.

1. Dominance personalities place emphasis on accomplishing tasks with an eye for results. They place focus on the bottom line of issues and tend to have more  confidence in the workplace. The dominance personality sees the big picture, and can be blunt when communicating with others. They are keen to accept challenges and get straight to the point of issues. Typical jobs include physician, entrepreneur, construction, IT.

2. Influence personalities place emphasis on persuading others. They value openness in the workplace and find it to be the optimal communication strategy. These personality types have strong relationships in the workplace. They bring a wealth of  enthusiasm to any group they are apart of. They are usually optimistic and love to collaborate with others. Influencer personalities appreciate being praised for their accomplishments in the workplace. Typical job types are sales, event planner, and entrepreneur.

3. Steadiness personalities place emphasis on cooperation, sincerity, dependability. They are the ones who value routine and structure. In the workplace and at home, steadiness personalities don’t like to be rushed and instead appreciate taking their time on projects and paying attention to the small details. Often times, these personality types have a  calm manner and approach to obstacles. Their supportive actions make them invaluable to the day-t0-day mechanics of a workplace. Typical jobs include librarian, writer, counselor, and trades.

4. The conscientiousness person places emphasis on quality and accuracy, expertise, competency. They tend to be very sensitive to the small details, but their sensitivity makes them perceptive to others’ nuances. They value productivity but can work very well independently, they don’t need reassurance as much as they need a sense of responsibility in the workplace. Typical jobs include accountant, lab tech, banker, and attorney.
